The Global Infrastructure Institute is contributing to the World Economic Forum Inititiative on the ‘Future of Construction’. Our fellows Kamminga, Altamirano, Hill, Craviolatti and Hijdra are working in close cooperation with the Forum. Our fellows deliver analyses and essays to advance the sector. Altamirano and Hijdra lead the disaster resilience group. Our fellows are involved in this group and the Project Delivery group. The initiative of the Forum is described as follows:
‘The Construction industry plays a key role for governments in both growing and mature economies. The sector creates new jobs, drives economic growth, and provides solutions to address social, climate and energy challenges. The construction industry has important linkages with other sectors, so that its impact on GDP and economic development goes well beyond the direct contribution of construction activities. The Future of Construction initiative serves as a platform for Forum partners who are pioneering the industry to shape the sector agenda and policy framework. In 2016, Forum’s members and industry’s disruptors raised sectors challenges and opportunities by working in six (6) interrelated eco-systems:
- Project Delivery,
- Lifecycle performance,
- Sustainability,
- Affordability,
- Disaster Resilience and
- Flexibility/liveability/Wellbeing.’
